The Italian immigrant labour force in Montreal during the period 1880 to 1930. The author describes the various types of labour available to the immigrants, their kinship and the PAESI networks used in obtaining work. He also outlines ethnic discrimination during this period, and cases in which Italian workers developed their own entrepreneurial enterprises.
