Abstract
Chronicles the 230-year history of English-language publishing in Quebec from the mid-eighteenth to the mid-twentieth centuries. In 1764, the year after the signing of the Treaty of Paris ending the Seven Years War between France and England, printers William Brown (ca. 1737-1789) and his partner Thomas Gilmore (1741?-1773) arrived in Quebec City from Philadelphia. Theirs was the first English-language printing shop in Quebec.
