Title
Une mémoire seigneuriale à l'anglaise
Abstract
At the time that legislation was passed in 1854 abolishing the seigneurial system in Quebec, nearly half of all seigneurial properties in the province were owned by English Quebecers. This documentary examines how these English-speaking Protestant families interacted with the predominantly French-speaking and Catholic population on the seigneuries, what relationships were woven with the other seigneurial families of French ancestry, and what heritage places still bear witness to this Anglophone history. But above all, the film looks at what memories the descendants of these families still retain of their ancestors' lives as seigneurs.
