Abstract
The biography of a man who was prominent in the history of the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. Francis John Shepherd (1851-1929) is said to have revolutionized the teaching of anatomy at McGill, and was a pioneer dermatologist. He also served as McGill's Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. The author includes information on the Montreal General Hospital in the 1870s, on the controversy over the site of the Royal Victoria Hospital, on medical procedures in Quebec in the late nineteenth century, and on health conditions of the population of Montreal at the turn of the twentieth century.
