Title
Jane Smith's Second Family
Abstract
The author speculates on the genealogy of Jane Smith, the mother of four children by Andrew Stuart (1785-1840), a prominent Quebec City lawyer and politician, between 1820 1824. The author maintains that the couple never married. Little is know of Smith's life. The author's investigation leads him to believe that she married Thomas Hincks Reed, a Quebec City upholsterer, in 1828, although Stuart agreed to financially support his children.
