Title
L'immigration juive européenne à Montréal dans les années après-guerre : quelle identité, quelle mémoire, quelle intégration?
Abstract
The author interviewed eight Jewish survivors of the Nazi-era holocaust in Europe who came to Montreal after 1948, part of the 120,000 Jewish refugees who were admitted to Canada after the Second World War. The author questioned the eight about their decision to emigrate, their arrival in Montreal and their integration into Quebec society through their employment and choice of residential area; their experiences with the city's existing Jewish community, and the education choices made for their children. The author also questioned them about their European roots, the anti-Semitism they faced in the city, their social status, the intensity of their religious lives, and their interaction with other Montreal ethnic communities.
