Évolution démographique de la population anglophone au Québec, 1951-2036
Abstract
In this empirical study, the author presents the past and future demographic evolution of Quebec’s English-speaking population over a period of eighty-five years, from 1951 to 2036. He starts by revealing the main demolinguistic trends, with a focus on both mother tongue and “first official language spoken” (FOLS). The difference between these, as explained, provides for a better understanding of the changes that have characterized the evolution of Quebec’s English-speaking population. The author then addresses the issue of immigration and interprovincial migration, two critical elements in the demographic evolution of the English-speaking population over time. Finally, the author puts forward some relevant elements from the 2011-2036 language projections to see how Quebec’s English-speaking population might evolve under different scenarios.
