Les Juifs hassidiques de Montréal
Abstract
Hassidic Jews live in the central neighborhoods of Montreal, but for whom very little information about their beliefs and lives circulates. This book portrays a portrait of this population and its sub-communities, while addressing the controversial issue of the schooling of young Hassidim and the fairly frequent tensions that arise recurrently in certain neighborhoods, especially Outremont, between Hassidim and their non-Jewish neighbours. The book also portrays the sustained, but not very visible, relationship between Hasidic Jews and their immediate urban environment, particularly in economic, social and institutional terms.
