Requête des habitants de Québec à Lord Durham (1838)
Abstract
A reprint of an address from the "inhabitants of the City of Quebec and its vicinity" read to Governor-in-Chief Lord Durham on his arrival to the colonial capital in May 1838. The address contains 4,250 signatures, of which only 214 are the names of French Quebecers. It is estimated that the 28 pages of signatures comprises the names of one-quarter of the English-speaking population of the Quebec City area in 1838.
