Abstract
There were seventy-four initial subscribers to the Champlain and St. Lawrence Railroad, almost all of whom were Montreal Anglophones, when the company charter was drawn up in 1832. The railroad was built in 1836 between Laprairie and St-Jean-sur-Richelieu. In 1852 the line was extended to St. Lambert.
