Abstract
In 1864, Jeffery Hale (1803-1864) bequeathed $36,000 in his will to the establishment of a hospital in Quebec City bearing his name that would care for Protestants of all denominations. The hospital was incorporated in 1865 and received its first patients two years later. Today it is one of the principal hospitals in Quebec City, serving both Anglophones and Francophones patients regardless of religious beliefs.
