Title
Conséquences des barrières que rencontrent les ainês d’expression anglaise pour avoir accès aux services sociaux et de santé
Abstract
The authors note that English-speaking seniors (ESS) in the Eastern Townships face barriers when accessing health and social services (HSS). The consequences of those barriers, they point out, are unknown. Their research aimed to describe the consequences of those barriers. The authors conducted ten interviews with ESS using a validated and pretested interview guide. They identified 25 consequences of eight barriers to HSS access. The authors found that the most notable outcomes were non-use of HSS, fear, limited social contacts, and dependence on family caregivers. They conclude that these consequences risk hindering aging in place, present and future, for ESS living in the Eastern Townships.
