La Conférence de la Paix de Paris vue du Québec : les journaux montréalais et la naissance de la Société des Nations (1918-1919)
Abstract
The author examines how seven Montreal daily newspapers, English and French, discussed the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 following the end of the First World War. The newspapers all showed great interest in the event, and tried to help their readers understand how deeply the world had changed after the Great War. The author points out that the newspapers shared similar agreements when they reported on the feeling of hope generated by the creation of the League of Nations and Canada's claim for greater autonomy. However, the author argues that differences appeared when Francophone newspapers expressed their suspicious sentiment towards British imperialism, and their sympathy for smaller nations which longed for international recognition. Three English language newspapers examined by the author were The Gazette, the Montreal Herald and the Montreal Star.
