Title
Roncarelli v. Duplessis: Art. 1053 C.C Revolutionized
Abstract
A summary of the twelve-year long court proceedings, from 1946 to 1959, undertaken by Frank Roncarelli, a Montreal restaurateur and Jehovah Witness, against Quebec Premier Maurice Duplessis for revoking his restaurant's liquor license. Duplessis had the license revoked because Roncarelli posted property bonds for jailed Jehovah Witnesses who were arrested for distributing religious tracts on the streets of Montreal. Roncarelli was represented by the law firm of Stein & Stein, assisted by John Ahern and F. R. Scott as counsel.
