Title
La croissance naturelle des Montréalais au XIXe siècle
Abstract
A comparison of lifestyles, economic achievement and population behaviour of French-speaking Catholics, English-speaking (Irish) Catholics and English-speaking Protestant Montrealers between 1840 and 1900. The authors contend that their research shows how the three communities reproduced themselves in the city over the sixty-year period in very different ways, and points to the existence of three quite different demographic systems and strategies, which changed significantly over the second half of the nineteenth century.
