Title
Notes on the Early History and Evolution of the Department of Health of Montreal
Abstract
Although Montreal's Board of Health was established in 1870, it played little significance in the health of the city until it was reorganized in 1876 by Montreal's newly-elected mayor, Dr. William Hingston. The author outlines the roles played by various heads of the Board, later renamed the Department of Health, between the 1870s and the 1920s.
