Les revenus et la langue au Québec (1970-1978) : rapport présenté au Conseil de la langue française
Abstract
A study of the disparity in salaries in Quebec based on maternal language between 1970 and 1978. The authors compare two studies undertaken during this period -- one by the Gendron Commission (Commission of Inquiry on the Situation of the French Language and Linguistic Rights in Quebec) in 1971, and the other undertaken by the Conseil de la langue française in 1978. Their research analyzes the net effect of linguistic attributes, mother tongue and knowledge of English and French on the incomes of Quebec's workforce in 1970 and 1978 and provides an explanation of the evolution observed between these two points in time. The authors concluded that by 1978, unilingual Anglophones did not generally have a higher income than unilingual Francophones.
