Abstract
An examination of Moses Hart's critique of the Catholic religion and his 1815 proposal for a new religion, published in a pamphlet under the title "General Universal Religion", reprinted in 1824 under the title "Modern Religion". The Trois-Rivières-born Hart (1768-1852) was a businessman and seigneur who once described himself as "the oldest English Canadian in Canada and the largest landholder in this district (Trois-Rivières)."
