While the Lachine Canal was being built, an place of worship was established in Lachine by Rev. Brooke Bridges Stevens for Anglican workers. The Protestant parish was officially founded in 1822, but St. Stephen's church was not built until 1831 on land bequeathed by William Gordon. St. Stephen's is one of the oldest Anglican parishes in Canada. The book is a compilation of historical documents, essays, and information about St. Stephen's Church.
