Abstract
A description of the career of the British-born James William Williams (1825-1892) and his association with nineteenth century Eastern Townships educational institutions. Williams immigrated to Canada East (Quebec) in 1857 when he was appointed rector of the Lennoxville grammar school, affiliated with Bishop's College. In 1860, he was appointed a professor of "belles-lettres" at Bishop's College. In 1863, he was appointed the fourth Anglican Bishop of Quebec.
