Abstract
A quantitative and qualitative analysis of the publishing industry and distribution of printed material in Montreal from 1776 to 1820. The first paper mill in Quebec was built in 1804 in St. Andrews East (now Saint-André), Argenteuil County, by Walter Ware. In 1809 the mill was bought by Montrealer James Brown (1776-1845), who ran the mill until the mid-1830s.
