Title
A Draught of an Act of Parliament for Tolerating the Roman Catholick Religion in the Province of Quebec, and for Encouraging and Introducing the Protestant Religion into the Said Province, and for Vesting the Lands Belonging to Certain Religious Houses
Abstract
The author, Francis Maseres (1731-1824), had been Attorney-General of Quebec from 1766 to 1769. Of a Huguenot family background, Maseres held an anti-Catholic prejudice but appears to have been able to "tolerate" Catholicism in Quebec in the short term while encouraging French Canadians to convert to Protestantism.
