Abstract
The recollections of the Principal of McGill from 1855 to 1893. Sir John William Dawson (1820-1899) describes coming to the university in 1855 when it was "...two blocks of unfinished and partly ruinous buildings, standing amid a wilderness of excavators' and masons' rubbish, overgrown with weeds and bushes."
