Abstract
The authors discuss the evolution of infant mortality in Montreal and the province between 1885 and 1971. They contend that in Montreal during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, cultural context exerted a powerful influence on infant mortality where more French Canadian infants died in their first year than babies of British or Jewish parents.
