Abstract
Redpath Sugar was established by the Scottish-born John Redpath (1796-1869) on the banks of Montreal's Lachine Canal in 1854. In 1930, Redpath Sugar merged with a Chatham, Ontario, refinery to become the Canada and Dominion Sugar Refining Company . In 1980, the Montreal plant was closed and production shifted to Toronto, Ontario.
