The Montreal Forum: Forever Proud
Abstract
The history of the Montreal Forum, home of the National Hockey League's Montreal Maroons from 1924 to 1938 and the Montreal Canadiens from 1926 to 1996. Conceived in 1923 by Sir Edward Wentworth Beatty (1877-1943) and financed by H. L. Timmins, the Forum was originally built to accommodate the Maroons, Anglophone Montreal's hockey team. The Forum opened on November 29, 1924. The last hockey game at the Forum was played on March 11, 1996. The building was designated a national historic site in 1997.
