La contribution de Maude Abbott au développement de la muséologie médicale (1898-1940)
Abstract
Maude Abbott (1869-1940) graduated from Bishop’s University’s Faculty of Medicine in 1894 after McGill refused her admission to its Faculty of Medicine because she was a female. In 1898, Abbott was appointed Assistant Curator, and in 1900 Curator, of the McGill University Museum of Pathology. She developed a weekly program of pathology demonstrations that was part of the University’s pathology curriculum from 1904 to 1922. From 1907 to 1938, Abbott was Editor of the Bulletin of the International Association of Medical Museums. The authors explain how Maude Abbott played a prominent role in the development of scientific, especially medical, museology. She saw the Medical Museum as an aid to the teaching of medicine and she loaned specimens to teachers of clinical courses.
