Title
I Protagonisti Italiani di Montreal
Abstract
A series of essays tracing the Italian presence in Montreal from New France to the twentieth century. Includes essays on the Second World War, when some Italians in Montreal were interned as enemy aliens; on the successful fight to erect a statue to Giovanni Caboto (John Cabot) in a Montreal square; on the emergence of the city's Italian-Canadian middle class; and on the "education wars" of the late 1960s and early 1970s, when Quebec's language laws, expressed in restrictions on access to English-language schools for immigrant children, met with resistance by Italian Montrealers.
