Abstract
An examination of the violent action taken by Montreal English-speaking Tories in 1849 to the passage by Parliament of the Rebellion Losses Bill, compensating people (even those who participated in the Rebellion against the government) for losses incurred during the Rebellion of 1837. During the 1849 protest, the Parliament Building, then located in Montreal, was destroyed by fire.
