A biographical sketch of Frances Brooke (1724-1789), the wife of the garrison chaplain at Quebec City from 1763 to 1768, and the author of the novel, The History of Emily Montague (1769). Set in Quebec City, the author claims that The History of Emily Montague is Canada's first novel.
