Abstract |
The role played by the Scottish-born George M. Douglas (1809-1864)in tending to the sick and dying Irish immigrants who arrived at the Grosse Ile quarantine station, below Quebec City, in 1847. Most of the immigrants were suffering from typhus. Thousands of Irish immigrants are buried on the island, now a national historic site.
