Abstract |
There were five internment camps on the south shore of the St. Lawrence during the Second World War created for the incarceration of male individuals of German descent. The camps were at Farnham, Grande Linge, Île-aux-Noix, Sherbrooke (Newington) and Sorel. During the first phase of the internment operation (1940-1943), civilians formed the bulk of the inmates; during the second phase (1943-1946), most of the inmates were prisoners of war.
