Abstract |
Reprints of documents concerning the attack on Montreal merchant and Justice of the Peace Thomas Walker on December 6, 1764, by members of the British military garrison. The incident nearly divided the English-speaking members of the colony into armed camps and eventually led to the recall of Quebec's first British governor, James Murray. Documents include: Memorial by the prisoners with accompanying documents, no. 1-8: Report of Chief Justice Hey Quebec, April 14th, 1767 (Canadian archives, Series Q, vol. 4, p. 133) -- List of the Grand jury for the district of Montreal before which bills were laid against the prisoners charged with the assault on Thomas Walker (Q 4, p. 105).
