Abstract
The author argues that between 1894 and 1925, the Montreal and Toronto Chinese Missions of the Methodist and Presbyterian churches were unsuccessful in their attempts to convert and assimilate the large number of Chinese immigrants believed to pose a threat to Canadian society and nation-building.
