Title
Like One That Dreamed: A Portrait of A.M. Klein
Abstract
A.M. Klein (1909-1972), considered one of Canada's greatest poets, was raised in the working-class Jewish district of Montreal. A lawyer by training, he was also editor and principal columnist (1938-1955) of the Montreal-based weekly Canadian Jewish Chronicle. The author outlines Klein's literary successes as well as the challenges that Klein faced, from humiliating rejections by dismissive editors in the 1930s and 1940s to his eventual lonely confrontation with madness and death.
