Abstract
The author points out that Matthew Moody (1811-1887) emigrated from Ireland to Lower Canada when he was eighteen-years old, and in 1833 established a blacksmith shop in Terrebonne, about 40km North of Montreal. Matthew Moody & Sons was founded in 1845 as a maker of agricultural equipment. Today, the company is known as Moody Industries, and manufactures material handling systems for airlines and the food and beverage industries.
