Abstract
A biography of the British-born Elizabeth Taylor Davie (1803-1873), who took over the Davie Shipyard in Lévis, Quebec, in 1836 following the drowning death of her husband, Allison Davie. The mother of nine children, she was the first woman to head a shipbuilding firm in Canada. She ran the shipyard until 1850, when she turned business over to her son, George Taylor Davie.
