Title
Ship-Rigged Rafts and the Export of Quebec Timber
Abstract
Charles Wood (1786-1847) built two vessels in Quebec out of square timbers that could be taken apart and sold after the vessel arrived in England. The author argues that Wood's goal was not to avoid custom duties but to transport huge timbers to the British market as cheaply as possible.
