Abstract
Born into privilege in Nyirmada, Hungary, Herman Gruenwald's idyllic childhood came to an end in 1944 when he and his family were sent to Auschwitz. In 1950, Gruenwald and his wife, also a concentration camp survivor, emigrated to Canada where he found success in Montreal's garment trade as the owner and manager of Reliable Hosiery. He passed away in 2020.
