Title
Les territoires symboliques du sport : le hockey comme élément identitaire du Québec
Abstract
Although the primary focus of the article is on how French-speaking Quebecers came to adopt the game of hockey as their secular religion, the authors do discuss the role played by Anglophones in introducing hockey into the province in 1875, their domination of the sport in Quebec until the 1890s, and the competition between the Canadiens, founded in 1909 by Ottawa businessman J. Ambrose O’Brien, and the Montreal Maroons, the city’s Anglophone hockey team.
