Title
Doug: The Doug Harvey Story
Abstract
Born in 1924 in Montreal’s West End, Doug Harvey’s Hall of Fame hockey career began in the 1950s during the era of the Original Six and ended in the early days of the NHL’s expansion two decades later. A seven-time winner of the Norris Trophy for best defenceman, he was a cornerstone of the Montreal Canadiens during the 1960s when the team won the Stanley Cup five years in a row. He also tried to start a hockey players’ association during a time when such top stars as Harvey were being paid $9,000 a season, but the short-lived project lasted only one year. Harvey died in 1989.
