Title
Darkness and Delight: A Portrait of the Life and Work of John Glassco
Abstract
The author offers a portrait of the life and works of Montreal-born John Glassco (1909-1981), poet, memoirist, pornographer and translator, from his childhood to the publication of his Memoirs of Montparnasse in 1970. The author points out that Glassco's life, and the energy that fuelled his creative work, had as their determining force his attempts to reconcile the psychological effects of the attacks on his child-self by his father with the realization of his artistic gifts as an adult, a reconciliation made even more difficult by his persistent illness.
