Abstract
The history of the the creation of Montreal's Mount Royal Park, starting with an 1819 suggestion of a visiting Yale University chemistry professor to turn the mountain into a park, to its official opening as a park in 1876, based on a design by Frederick Law Olmsted, the leading American landscape architect of his age.
