The Beauharnois Scandal: A Story of Canadian Entrepreneurship and Politics
Abstract
During the 1930 federal election, the Beauharnois Light, Heat and Power Company, under its President R.O. Sweezey, gave Mackenzie King's Liberal Party $700,000 to speed approval of its plan to change the flow of the St. Lawrence at its under-construction hydroelectric power station at Beauharnois, Quebec. A year later the "contribution" came to light.
