Title
Canada's Sharp Yankee: William Van Horne's Diverse Legacy
Abstract
A brief explanation of Van Horne's legacy to Canada and especially Montreal. Van Horn (1843-1915) was hired as the general manager, and later became president, of the Canadian Pacific Railway. His 52-room home on Sherbrooke Street was among the numerous mansions that once dotted the Golden Square Mile. Its destruction in the 1970s to make way for an office tower led to the creation of Save Montreal, a grassroots built-heritage organization.
