The Yiddish Press in Montreal, 1900-1945
Abstract
An examination of Montreal's Yiddish Press in the first half of the twentieth century, in particular the leading newspaper, Der Keneder Adler (Canadian Jewish Eagle). The author contends that this community press served a dual function: to acclimatize the city's eastern European immigrant community to its new adopted home, and to maintain and foster a distinctive cultural life.
