Abstract
The Italian-born Guido Nincheri (1885-1973) was one of Canada's most important stained-glass maters and church decorators. Immigrating to Montreal in 1915 after a short stay in Boston, Nincheri designed the interior decoration of many Catholic churches in Montreal, including Saint-Viateur d'Outremont, Saint-Léon de Westmount Church, and the Church of the Madonna della Difesa. It is estimated that Nincheri executed two thousand stained glass windows in about one hundred different churches in Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes, British Columbia and New England. Although considered to have been the most prolific religious artist in North America, the author points out that his work is not well known.
