Abstract
The author traces the influence of teachers and graduates from the University of Chicago’s Department of Sociology on the development of the discipline in Canada. Specifically, the author focuses on McGill University, whose early reputation as a dominant centre of instruction and home to the first Department of Sociology in Canada beginning in 1925 set the pace for the development of the discipline in this country.
