Le Témiscouata: De la Préhistoire à la Confédération
Abstract
An early history of the Bas-Saint-Laurent area of Quebec around Lake Témiscouata. Indigenous Nations occupied the area for at least 6,000 years before Europeans arrived in New France. Under the French regime, the Seigneury of Madawaska was established in 1683, but never settled. Following the Conquest, the seigneury was taken over by Governor General James Murray (1721-1794), then by Henry Caldwell (1735-1810), then by Alexander Fraser (1763-1837). The first permanent resident of Témiscouata was Philip Long in 1809.
