Abstract
Includes information on the history of early education and care for children in Montreal. One of the first infant schools to open in Canada was opened in Montreal, on St. Dominique Street, in 1828 by the Montreal Infant School Society. Montreal's Day Nursery and Industrial School, later renamed The Montreal Day Nursery, opened in 1887. Originally affiliated with the city's Young Women's Christian Association, this institution provided temporary care for children aged three weeks to ten years.
